Online Counseling / Telehealth
For your convenience we offer clients online counseling / telehealth for individuals and couples through secure video visits from anywhere in the State of Minnesota. It’s understandable that meeting in the office is not always convenient. Online appointments allow you to receive the same quality of care as you do in person and makes professional counseling available anywhere (within the State of Minnesota), through a computer, tablet or smartphone. No need to take time off work, find a sitter, or deal with traffic and/or potentially driving long miles in order to meet with us.
What is online counseling?
Online counseling / telehealth is the use of audio and video technology to provide counseling/coaching for clients at a distance. This includes the in-office specialties we address daily such as stress, anxiety, relationships (marriage and couple’s), parenting, depression, addictions, sleeping, trauma, anger, family conflicts, grief, religion, self-esteem and more.
What are the benefits?
There are many benefits to using online counseling / telehealth. The biggest, is the opportunity to meet with us from anywhere within the State of Minnesota in the comfort of your home, office, or while traveling. This saves you time and money compared to traveling to our office in Maple Grove.
Is it easy?
We use Doxy.me, a simple, secure, and HIPAA compliant telemedicine solution to provide online therapy / online counseling. It was expertly designed to be as easy as possible – no downloads, no account registrations, no passwords.
Is it secure?
Doxy.me uses state of the art security and encryption protocols to assure that data integrity and privacy is maintained and fully compliant with HIPAA and HITECH requirements. No data is ever recorded or stored.
Is it effective?
Online counseling was slightly more effective at treating depression than face-to-face counseling.
A University of Zurich study divided a group of 62 patients in half and found that depression was eased in 53 percent of those given online therapy, compared to 50 percent who had in-person counseling. Three months after completing the study, 57 percent of online patients showed no signs of depression compared to 42 percent with conventional therapy. — Journal of Affective Disorders, 2013.
Five hundred patients assigned to either live video counseling or in-person care showed equal rates of recovery.
Patients in Ontario, Canada were assigned to face-to-face or live video counseling and experienced statistically the same clinical outcome and level of patient satisfaction. — American Psychiatric Association, 2007.
Internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy helped reduce symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder with effects that lasted until well after the treatment had ended.
A pilot study compared the effectiveness of online cognitive behavioral therapy and in-person supportive therapy in 45 Defense service members suffering from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after the September 11th attack. After eight weeks those receiving online therapy showed greater improvement. Six months after their first meeting those who had received online therapy continued to show improvement, in direct contrast to the in-person group. — American Journal of Psychiatry, November 2007
What will I need?
To have a video call, all you need is a computer (with camera and microphone) or mobile device with a good internet connection. Doxy.me works automatically in popular browsers Chrome, Firefox, and Safari.
Please note that our system does not currently support 3-way live video sessions so for marriage or couple’s sessions, both partners should be in the same location to utilize these features.
